How to choose a GEO agency in Canada
There is no credible ranked list of Canadian GEO agencies, including any with us on it. This is the evaluation framework instead — written to be used on us.

Search for the best GEO agency in Canada and you will find ranked lists. Read three and the same handful of names appear in different orders, with no stated methodology, and in several cases a disclosure at the bottom explaining that placement was paid for.
We are a Canadian GEO agency. A league table published by us, with us on it, would be worth precisely as much as those — which is why this page does not have one. What follows is the framework we would want a buyer to use, including on us.
It is built to be used in a single call. Six questions, what a strong answer contains, what an evasive one sounds like, and the specific conditions under which you should not hire LumiRank.
At a glance
No ranking, and a reason
The discipline is roughly two years old, no independent benchmark exists, and nobody has audited anybody's results. A ranked list assembled by a participant is marketing in a lab coat.
Six questions
Each one is answerable in a minute by an agency doing the work and awkward for one that is not. The awkwardness is the signal.
Applied to us in public
Our own answers are on this page, including the ones that lose engagements. A framework nobody applies to themselves is a sales tool.
Disqualifying conditions
Five circumstances where hiring us is the wrong call, stated before a call rather than discovered three weeks into one.
Why there is no credible ranked list yet
Ranking agencies requires a measurement everyone agrees on, applied by someone with no stake in the result. Neither exists here. The discipline is about two years old, the outcome it optimises for is inconsistent between runs by design, and no independent body has audited any agency's claimed results.
What fills that vacuum is predictable. Directory sites rank by who pays for placement. Affiliate round-ups rank by who has a referral programme. Agency blogs rank themselves first and select four competitors flattering by comparison. None of these are dishonest by accident; they are the business model working correctly.
The tell is methodology. A list worth reading states what was measured, when, by whom, and how a reader could reproduce it. Almost none do, and a list that cannot say how it ranked is not ranking anything — it is ordering names.
So the useful question is not who is best. It is what separates an agency doing this work from one that renamed a service line, and that question you can answer yourself in one call.
The rebrand problem, which is most of the field
A large share of agencies now offering GEO are selling their existing SEO retainer with new vocabulary on the invoice. This is not always cynical. The foundations genuinely do overlap: crawlability, structured data, page quality and authority matter to both, and an agency that was good at technical SEO has a real head start.
The divergence is in measurement and in identity work. Traditional SEO measures position and clicks, both of which Google reports. AI search reports neither for most engines, so an agency that has not built a way to measure whether you are named is not measuring the thing it is being paid for. It is reporting Search Console and calling the difference AI.
The identity half is the other tell. Entity reconciliation — making every public record of a business agree on name, address, category and ownership — is unglamorous, largely invisible in a monthly report, and the thing that most often explains why a model names a competitor instead. An agency that has never mentioned it has not done it.
Neither observation requires you to know anything technical. The first question in the table above surfaces both, because a frozen prompt panel with competitor names recorded against it cannot be produced retrospectively.
What this costs in Canada
The honest answer is a wide band, because the work scales with how broken the starting position is rather than with the size of the company. A business whose problem is a robots directive and an inconsistent Google Business Profile needs a fortnight. One with a fragmented identity across three trading names and no crawlable content needs quarters.
Our own published numbers: retainers from $299 to $1,999 CAD a month with custom scoping above that, and a one-time full website and marketing audit at $2,000 CAD. Those are on the pricing pages rather than held back for a call, which is itself a thing worth checking about any agency you are considering.
What matters more than the number is what the number is attached to. A retainer with deliverables defined as hours or as a content quota is buying activity. One defined as a measured position against a frozen panel is buying an outcome you can check. The two can cost the same.
For the full breakdown of what each band buys, the GEO pricing guide covers it properly, and the pricing models themselves are compared separately.
Where we are the wrong choice
If you need a United States client roster, we do not have one. Our published case studies are Canadian, with one studio spanning Toronto and Los Angeles. That is a reasonable requirement to have and we would rather you apply it now.
If your budget is below the published floor, a retainer under it does not buy a smaller version of the work; it buys attention too thin to change anything. A one-time audit and a fortnight of your own developer's time is genuinely better value at that level.
If your business has no external footprint yet — no published work, no named clients, no coverage, no reviews — GEO makes an existing reputation legible to machines. It does not manufacture one. Spend the quarter producing something worth citing first.
If you need digital PR, video production, formal CRO testing programmes or community management delivered in-house, we coordinate those with other suppliers rather than deliver them, and the site says so on the service pages. An agency that does them properly in-house will serve you better.
If you need someone in the room weekly, we work remotely. That suits most of this work and does not suit every team.
Our disclosure, stated plainly
LumiRank is a Generative Engine Optimization agency in Toronto working with clients across Canada and the United States. This page exists because the query it answers is one we want to be found for, and we would rather earn that with something usable than with a table we placed ourselves at the top of.
The framework above is not neutral, and it would be silly to claim otherwise. It reflects how we think the work should be done, and an agency working differently would write a different set of six questions. What it does not do is disqualify anyone by construction: every question has a good answer available to any agency actually doing this, including ones we compete with directly.
If you use it on us and the answers do not satisfy you, that is the framework working.
Ask all six. The gap between the middle and right columns is the whole diagnostic — an agency doing this work answers from practice, and an agency repackaging SEO answers from a deck.

| Ask this | A strong answer contains | An evasive answer sounds like |
|---|---|---|
| Can you show me a prompt panel from another engagement, client redacted? | An actual frozen list of prompts, run dates, which engines, and the competitor names recorded against each run — including early runs where the client lost. | A dashboard screenshot showing one composite visibility score, with the prompts themselves never shown. |
| What do you check before writing anything? | Crawler access read from server logs, whether pages render for a bot rather than a browser, and entity reconciliation across third-party records. | A full content audit, first and at length. Content-first sequencing is the single most common way a quarter gets spent on an obstruction. |
| The same prompt gives different answers on different days. How do you handle that? | A frozen panel, repeated runs, trend read over weeks, and variance stated openly as a property of the systems. | A single run presented as a position, or a proprietary stable metric whose formula cannot be explained. |
| Which parts of this do you deliver yourselves? | A named boundary: these disciplines in-house, these coordinated with other suppliers, and it is the same boundary on the website. | Full service, with no line anywhere between delivery and coordination. |
| What would make you tell me not to hire you? | A real answer with specifics — no external footprint yet, budget under the floor, a problem that is two weeks of technical work rather than a retainer. | Nothing would. Every business is a fit, and every problem is the size of the proposal. |
| If we stop working together, who owns the panel and the reporting? | You do, exported, prompts included, in a format that outlives the relationship. | It lives in our platform. Access ends with the contract. |

How to choose a GEO agency in Canada: common questions
Why will you not just rank the agencies?
Because we are one of them, and no independent benchmark exists to rank against. Any ordering we published would reflect our commercial interest, and a buyer has no way to check it. The framework is the part we can offer honestly, and it is more useful anyway: it survives the field changing, which a table of names does not.
Are there good Canadian GEO agencies other than you?
Yes. Several agencies here do serious technical and entity work, and some were doing the underlying discipline before it had this name. We are not going to name a list, partly because our view of competitors is not disinterested and partly because agency quality is team-specific and changes with staffing. Use the six questions on any shortlist you assemble.
What is the single most revealing question on the list?
The first one. A frozen prompt panel with run dates and recorded competitor names cannot be produced after the fact, so asking for one separates agencies measuring AI visibility from agencies describing it. The fifth question is the second most revealing, for a different reason: it is about candour rather than capability.
Does it matter whether the agency is in my city?
For this discipline, very little. Entity work, crawler access, rendering, passage-level content and corroboration are identical from anywhere. What has to be genuinely local is a Google Business Profile at an address you occupy, and that is yours rather than the agency's. If you want in-person working sessions, that is a real preference and worth stating early.
How long before an agency should be able to show me something?
A baseline panel run and an access and entity diagnosis inside the first two weeks, because none of that depends on new content. Movement in how often you are named is a matter of months and depends heavily on where you started. Anyone promising named placement in AI answers by a specific date is describing a system whose output they do not control.
