The Osoba Renos website home page, a Toronto and GTA home renovation contractor

Osoba Renos & Design is a home-remodeling contractor working across Toronto and the wider GTA: full-home, bathroom, condo and basement renovations, from Etobicoke and Mississauga to Oakville, Thornhill and a heritage mansion restoration in Picton. The craft earns a 5.0 rating across 56 Google reviews, WSIB coverage and $2M in liability insurance. What it wasn't earning was search demand.

Referrals are powerful, but they stop at the edge of someone's network. When a homeowner two neighbourhoods over asked Google, or asked ChatGPT, "who does condo bathroom renovations near me?", Osoba wasn't in the answer. The reputation was real; the discoverability wasn't.

We rebuilt the foundation on the client's own domain: a clean, indexable site with city-and-service coverage, a structured local entity tied to the Google Business Profile, review and schema markup, and content shaped around the exact questions people ask before they hire. The goal wasn't just to rank on Google. It was to be legible to the AI engines now answering those questions directly.

At a glance

The client

Osoba Renos & Design, a Toronto & GTA general contractor specializing in full-home, bathroom, condo and basement renovations, with a 5.0 Google rating across 56 reviews, WSIB coverage and $2M liability insurance.

The challenge

A trusted, referral-driven business that was effectively invisible in search. It ranked for its own name and little else, missing the high-intent, non-branded queries ("condo bathroom renovation", "basement renovation Mississauga") where new customers actually start.

What we did

A crawlable, fast site (Lighthouse SEO 100/100); city-and-service page structure; LocalBusiness and Review schema; a consolidated Google Business Profile and entity; and content written to answer real pre-hire questions, the passage-level structure AI engines quote from.

The results

Search clicks up 56.1% quarter over quarter, the most recent three months against the three months before them, with impressions climbing on the same curve. Semrush, estimating independently, puts organic traffic up 43% and ranking keywords up 40% over its most recent window. Ranked #1 for brand queries and on page one for "basement renovation Mississauga", "Mississauga bathroom renovation" and "bath renovation near me". The site is actively crawled by Googlebot, Bingbot, GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot.

Why local search decides who wins a renovation job

Homeowners don't plan a renovation the way they plan a vacation. The search starts the moment a need becomes undeniable: a cramped condo bathroom, a basement that could be a rental, a kitchen that's finally had enough. And it starts on a phone, with a query like "condo bathroom renovation Toronto" or "basement renovation Mississauga," or, increasingly, with a question typed into ChatGPT: "who's a good renovation contractor near me?"

Whoever shows up in that moment gets the shortlist. Everyone else, no matter how good their work, competes only for the referrals that happen to reach them. For Osoba Renos, a business with a spotless 5.0 reputation, that referral ceiling was the whole problem. The demand existed; Osoba just wasn't in the results, or the answers, when it appeared.

Closing that gap isn't about one keyword. It's about matching the full range of how people actually ask: by service (bathroom, basement, condo, full-home), by city (Etobicoke, Mississauga, Oakville, Thornhill), and by intent ("near me," "cost," "ideas," "contractors"). And it's about being structured clearly enough that both Google and the AI engines can pull Osoba into the response.

How we rebuilt Osoba Renos for search and AI

The foundation came first. We shipped a fast, cleanly rendered, fully crawlable site that scores 100/100 on Lighthouse SEO for both desktop and mobile, with a correct canonical, valid indexing directives, and a structure search engines and AI retrievers can parse without guessing.

On top of that we built a city-and-service page architecture, with dedicated pages for each core service in each priority market, so a search for "bathroom renovation" in one suburb and "basement renovation" in another each land on a page written for exactly that intent. We consolidated the business into a single, consistent local entity tied to its Google Business Profile, and added LocalBusiness and Review structured data so engines can resolve who Osoba is, where it works, and how it's rated.

Then we wrote for the questions that come before a hire: what a renovation costs, how long a bathroom takes week by week, what's involved in a condo project. That content does double duty. It answers real buyer questions, and its clear, passage-level structure is exactly what AI answer engines lift and quote when someone asks them for a recommendation.

What the Search Console data shows

Comparing the most recent three-month window against the three months before it, search clicks are up 56.1%, with impressions climbing week over week through the summer rather than flattening out. Semrush's independent estimate shows the same shape: organic traffic up 43% and ranking keywords up 40% over its most recent window, with the keyword profile thickening in the top-three and four-to-ten bands rather than only in the long tail. The site holds the #1 position for its brand queries ("osoba renos," "osoba renos & design mississauga"). More importantly, it's earning non-branded visibility: page-one positions for "basement renovation Mississauga" (5.4), "Mississauga bathroom renovation" (7.7), "bath renovation near me" (1.5) and "renovation contractors" (5.0).

The clearest opportunity is "condo bathroom renovation", one of the site's largest sources of impressions, sitting at an average position of 18.8. That's a high-intent query knocking on the door of page one; a dedicated, well-structured page is the obvious next move to convert those impressions into clicks and calls.

An overall average position in the mid-twenties, and still improving, reflects a young footprint climbing rather than a ceiling. The trajectory is exactly the shape of a site that's been built right: clicks and impressions compounding quarter over quarter, brand locked at #1, several core services already on page one, a marquee query one push from breaking through.

Built to be cited by AI search engines

Ranking on Google is table stakes now; the newer battleground is being named inside AI answers. Server logs confirm Osoba's site isn't just theoretically eligible. It's being actively fetched by the retrieval bots behind every major answer engine: GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT), ClaudeBot (Claude), PerplexityBot (Perplexity), plus Googlebot, Bingbot, Applebot and others.

That matters because those engines can only cite what they can reach, parse, and trust. A crawlable site, a clean entity, structured facts, clear answers to real questions: the same work that lifts classic rankings is what makes Osoba quotable when a homeowner asks an assistant for a GTA renovation contractor instead of typing into a search box.

What the answer engines can see
Fetched by the retrieval bot behind every major answer engineServer logs
Server logs record GPTBot and OAI-SearchBot (ChatGPT), ClaudeBot (Claude) and PerplexityBot (Perplexity) pulling the site, alongside Googlebot, Bingbot and Applebot. Retrieval is the precondition for everything else: a page these crawlers never fetch cannot be quoted, cited or recommended no matter how well it is written.
One resolvable local entity, not a scatter of listingsLive site
LocalBusiness and Review structured data on the client's own domain, tied to a consolidated Google Business Profile, so the rating, service area and contact details an assistant reads are the same facts in every place it can look.
Pre-hire questions answered in passage-sized blocksLive site
Cost, timeline and scope content written as self-contained passages under plain headings — the shape an answer engine can lift a single paragraph out of without needing the rest of the page for context.

Every line above is retrieval and structure — the conditions that make a brand eligible to be named. None of it claims this client is currently cited in any given answer: that requires a prompt panel run on a schedule, which is measured per engagement rather than asserted here.
